This toolkit and app, produced by Sesame Workshop (the nonprofit educational organisation behind Sesame Street), contains various resources for children, family members and service providers working with children.
The toolkit contains a guide for caregivers to help them in supporting their children, an information sheet for incarcerated parents with tips about how to communicate with your child, a story for children about a girl whose dad is in prison, and activities for children. There are also videos for children exploring the issues and feelings around having a parent in prison, including clips from Sesame Street and clips of children talking about their own experiences, and a video for caregivers with a parent discussing how he cares for his son whose mother is in prison. The app can be downloaded for Android or iOS devices, and features an interacitve storybook, videos featuring real families and Sesame Street characters, tips for parents / caregivers and so on.
